The SALT Ministry is a non-profit organization whose mission is to assure that no senior in Wilson County goes without food.

We serve low-income seniors in Wilson County by providing food boxes twice a month on Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays, depending on which route each household has been assigned.

Because many seniors have difficulty shopping, SALT volunteers will also DELIVER the food to them. We serve over 150 households across the county.

We welcome referrals of seniors from churches and social service organizations. We serve residents of Wilson County age 55 and older who have a financial need. We serve people like you and me. An elderly woman who protests she does not want to take food if someone else might need it more. A Vietnam veteran who served his country with honor. A frail woman in her 80s returning home after surgery. A grandmother whose daughter and three grandchildren live with her and whose only income is a small Social Security check. A lifelong Wilson Country resident whose crippling illness prevents him from leaving his home.

We believe every person deserves to age well. That’s why we’re on a path to improve the lives of 40 million older adults by 2030.

Americans are living longer, but far too many are being left behind without the resources to age with dignity. We’re changing that. We believe aging well is something every American deserves—regardless of gender, color, sexuality, income, or zip code. We will deliver the resources, tools, best practices, and advocacy our nation needs to ensure that every person can age with health and financial security.

In Tennessee, we are helping older adults with barriers to employment and poor employment prospects to re-enter the workforce.  Because we take a holistic approach, we run benefit assessments upon enrollment to determine any barriers to employment that the older adult may be experiencing and help them to connect to low-cost or free benefits and services before they begin their paid job training.  The job training provides the opportunity for the older adult to refresh or learn new job skills that can be included on their resume to better prepare him/her for their job search and re-entering the workforce.
